Pool, Deck & Fence in Markdale
Grey County Construction was brought in as the General Contractor to turn a steep, difficult-to-use backyard into a complete outdoor retreat centred around a new mini pool. Because of the significant slope and the number of components involved, the project required careful planning, excavation, drainage, structural preparation, trade coordination and municipal approvals. We worked with the homeowner and pool supplier from the early planning stages through to completion, coordinating the construction plans, building permit, pool delivery and installation, electrical requirements, deck, patio, fencing, landscaping and final grading. We completed most of the work ourselves, and also utilized specialized trade resources where required.
Once construction began, Grey County Construction managed the project from the ground up. The existing slope was excavated and prepared for a properly compacted gravel base, followed by the construction of a reinforced concrete foundation for the pool. Drainage was installed around the pool and connected through trenches to a suitable low point on the property to help manage groundwater and surface water.
We coordinated the pool delivery and arranged for a mobile crane to carefully place the pool onto its new concrete foundation. As the pool was filled, rigid insulation was installed around the structure and the excavation was progressively backfilled and brought back to grade.
With the pool in place, we coordinated the required electrical work and bonding system with qualified electrical contractors before constructing a new poolside deck on a screw-pile foundation. The pressure-treated deck provides both convenient access to the pool and a comfortable area overlooking the backyard.
The surrounding landscape was then completed with large natural rocks, final grading and a combination of wood privacy fencing and chain-link fencing to create a finished, code-compliant pool enclosure. Throughout the project, Grey County Construction coordinated the required municipal inspections and successfully brought the project through to final permit approval with no deficiencies.

What began as a steep and challenging backyard was transformed into a complete outdoor living space that the homeowners could enjoy for years to come. The finished project brings together a mini pool, poolside deck, flagstone patio, drainage, landscaping and a code-compliant pool enclosure in a cohesive design that works with the property's existing terrain.
Most importantly, the homeowner had one contractor managing the project from planning and permitting through construction, trade coordination and final approval, providing a straightforward process despite the project's complexity.
