Deck & Privacy Fence in Owen Sound
The homeowner had previously hired another contractor to build a new deck. Regrettably, the completed work did not comply with the building code / permit application, preventing the municipal building authority from granting final approval for the permit.
Grey County Construction was brought on board to rectify the deck to meet code compliance and to successfully finalize the permit process. We were also tasked with removing an old, failing wood privacy fence and replacing it with a new fence that would endure over time.
Initially, we met with the homeowner and the municipal building authority to address the existing deficiencies and to establish a remediation plan for completing the permit process. Subsequently, we took out the old decking, set up new foundations for both the deck and the awning roof, constructed and installed new posts and beams for proper support of both the deck and the roof, and then removed and disposed of the outdated, non-compliant structural framing. After this, we installed new decking along with a below-deck skirting structure to completely enclose the area.
Additionally, we removed and disposed of the old fence and installed a new pressure treated wood privacy fence with posts embedded in concrete and created a custom gate fitted with modern black hardware.
Project results
Grey County Construction transformed the backyard by bringing the existing deck up to current building requirements and replacing the deteriorated privacy fence with a new, durable fence and custom gate. The completed project provided the homeowner with a stronger, more functional and finished outdoor space, while allowing the outstanding municipal permit to be successfully finalized. By addressing the structural deficiencies and coordinating the required remediation with the municipality, we delivered a complete solution that improved both the performance and appearance of the backyard.
